Environment Minister Mircea Fechet said that 1.2 billion euro worth of financing will be available under the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (NRRP) for Romania's waste management system, in addition to the already existing programs supported from European funds.

"Most of the money Romania benefits from came either through the Environment Operational Program or through the Large Infrastructure Operational Program, which will end on December 31 this year. (...) There's a new operational program ahead called the Sustainable Development Operational Program, that's if we are referring strictly to European money. As for the NRRP-related source of funding, we are investing over 1.2 billion euros in Romania's waste management system. We are talking here about voluntary collection centers, (...) but there are also hundreds of millions of euros to be invested in digitally-operated waste collection islands," the Environment minister said on Wednesday during a visit to Prahova County.

He explained that the digital waste management islands will allow a much more accurate tracking of recyclable waste.

Mircea Fechet attended on Wednesday the "Recycling in Romania" regional conference in Ploiesti.
