Finance Minister Marcel Bolos said on Monday in the central city of Alba Iulia that the implementation of new fiscal measures, such as restricting and capping public expenditures, are expected to save 8 billion RON by the end of the year, so that Romania does not risk having its European funding blocked.

"We, the state, have the moral duty to do everything in our power to keep at bay the risk of having European funding blocked, i.e. to not risk being unable to carry out the water, sewerage, street paving infrastructure projects, the construction of highways, railways. All these infrastructure projects are vital for the modernization of Romania," Marcel Bolos said, mentioning that envisaged are measures related to limiting and capping public expenditure, Agerpres.

"We are looking at both the operating expenses of the state and the infamous expenses with festivals, concerts, events, they will even be prohibited, except for those related to the end of the year and those dedicated to the official days of the administrative-territorial units. Our analyzes show that the expenditures of local authorities and the budget apparatus in the last month of the year or even starting in November are three- to fourfold the monthly average during the year. It's not normal for us to sit with this danger looming, of overshoting the budget deficit target and to find at the end of the year that Romania has drawn upon itself this risk of having the European funding blocked, because such wasteful spending. We cannot compromise the chance of development and implementation of investments for future generations and for what Romania's modernization means in the long term," Bolos said.

The Finance minister said that the coming into force of the new emergency ordinance on the cut of public spending is expected to save the budget 8 billion RON by year-end.

The Finance minister was in Alba County on Monday, where he visited the Cupru Min Abrud company and the IPEC factory in Alba Iulia.
