The Minister of Foreign Affairs Teodor Melescanu on Wednesday mentioned the two-state solution, in the context of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, at the meeting with the group of heads of diplomatic missions of the Arab states accredited to Bucharest, while showing that "one of the priorities of the Romanian foreign affairs policy is the development of political and economic relations between Romania and the group of Arab states."
The meeting occasioned an exchange of opinions on the concrete modalities to strengthen and diversify cooperation between Romania and the European Union with the Arab states, as well as on topical issues, with an emphasis on the security developments in the Middle East and Northern Africa regions, informs a press release of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAE) remitted to AGERPRES.
"The key for identifying solutions to ensure stability and security in the region and at global level is to promote and encourage a substantial dialogue. One of the priorities of the Romanian foreign affairs policy is the development of political relations between Romania and the Group of Arab states," stated Minister Teodor Melescanu, according to the abovementioned source.
At the meeting, the representatives of the group of Arab states appreciated Romania's role as an active promoter of peaceful solutions to conflicts and the constant support granted by our country to dialogue and negotiations.
The Romanian Minister highlighted the fact that Romania opted for a political solution to settling conflicts, through direct negotiations, and also highlighted the importance of maintaining stability and solving crisis in the Middle East.
"Resuming direct dialogue between the parties and solving the Israeli-Palestinian conflict of a just and sustainable manner, to correspond to both parties' interests and to contribute to ensuring peace and stability in the Middle East, including in respect to the issue of the status of Jerusalem, this is the only viable solution," said Melescanu.
Among the group of Arab states accredited to Bucharest are: the People's Democratic Republic of Algeria, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the Arab Republic of Egypt, the United Arab Emirates, the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, the Republic of Iraq, the State of Kuwait, the Lebanese Republic, the State of Libya, the Kingdom of Morocco, Palestine, the State of Qatar, the Republic of Tunisia.
