Romanian tennis player Gabriela Ruse will face Canadian Bianca Andreescu in the quarterfinals of the WTA 250 grass-court tournament in 's-Hertogenbosch (Netherlands), with a total prize pool of 239,212 euros, after last year's finalist defeated New Zealander Lulu Sun, the seventh seed, 6-0, 6-4 on Thursday.
Ruse (27 years old, no. 80 WTA), who came from the qualifiers, advanced to the round of 16 against another Canadian, Carson Branstine, 6-4, 6-3.
The Romanian player suffered a back injury after the match with Branstine, so she withdrew from the doubles quarterfinal match that she was supposed to play on Thursday, along with Belgian Magali Kempen, so that the pair Ari Hozumi (Japan)/Aldila Sutjiadi (Indonesia), seeded number four, qualified for the semifinals without a match.
This will be the first confrontation between Ruse and Andreescu (24 years old, 118 WTA).
Gabriela Ruse secured a cheque for 5,925 euros and 72 WTA points in singles, and in doubles she and Kempen will receive a cheque for 2,210 euros and 54 WTA points in doubles.
