The General Prosecutor's Office denied the existence of an ongoing investigation into the accusations made by Chairman of the Social Democratic Party (PSD) Liviu Dragnea against the Protection and Guard Service (SPP) chief, Lucian Pahontu.

"In respect to the information that appeared in the public space related to the existence of a criminal case pending with the Prosecutor's Office attached to the High Court of Cassation and Justice (ICCJ) regarding the statements made by the Speaker of the Deputies Chamber, the Public Ministry denies the existence of such ongoing investigation into the affirmations of the Speaker of the Deputies Chamber against the head of the Protection and Guard Service," reads a message posted on Wednesday on the Facebook page of the Public Ministry.

Previously, the General Prosecutor's Office confirmed that there was an order for verifications to be carried out into Dragnea's affirmations.

On Wednesday, Deputy Prime Minister Paul Stanescu said that Lucian Pahontu sent him, through "a friend" a message that the PSD leader Liviu Dragnea was to be "executed" and that he could be able to take over "even the party."

On Monday, Liviu Dragnea told a television broadcast that Deputy Prime Minister is the one who denounced a proposal coming from Pahontu.
