Last year, 85 laws from the government's list of legislative priorities have been adopted, as well as 117 emergency ordinances and 30 simple ordinances, Minister delegate for Parliament liaison Viorel Ilie said on Thursday in the opening of the government's meeting.

"I want to brief you as per the Government's Resolution No. 22/2017 on the activity of the Ministry for Parliament liaison. (...) In short, I will give you some numbers for bills and government legislative initiatives that underwent the parliamentary procedure during the reporting period, specifically in 2017. There have been 473 bills of which 251 initiated by the government; 278 laws cleared Parliament and have been promulgated by the President of Romania over January - December 2017. Of these, 73 are organic, 205 are ordinary; it should be mentioned that 84 pieces of legislation derived from legislative proposals initiated by lawmakers. Parliament also greenlighted 85 laws on the list of the government's legislative priorities, most of which have been published in the Official Journal," Viorel Ilie said.

The Minister also mentioned that last year, under the law enabling the government to adopt ordinances, 117 emergency ordinances and 30 simple ordinances have been issued.

"The government referred to Parliament 772 opinions, of which 194 for legislative proposals from 2017 and the rest of 578 in connection to previous legislative initiatives. As part of Parliament's control power in the reporting period, 3,656 questions and 1,727 interpellations have been addressed to the government. Four simple motions have been lodged with the Chamber of Deputies, two simple motions with the Senate, there have been three no-confidence motions, six political debates 'Government Time' and 'Prime Minister's Hour', and 2,498 political statements have been issued.

"These are basically the quantitative aspects, so to say, which result from monitoring the Government - Parliament relationship that falls within the competence of the Ministry for Parliament liaison," said Viorel Ilie.
