The government is open to cooperation with civil society representatives for the combat of disinformation and fake news, as long as the result of this cooperation is in the interest and benefit of the citizen, the government's Press Office said.
The clarification comes after the call launched by non-governmental organization Global Focus Center for the creation, together with "colleagues from other NGOs", of a mechanism to put pressure on the government to ensure "speedier, more correct, more complete" communication. According to the cited source, the initiatives of NGOs and media experts will generate "recommendations" for the combat of disinformation and fake news.
"The group's activity is independent of the government's functioning and structures, the products received will be analyzed and possibly put to use. The project is initiated by the civil society, and the government has not requested the monitoring of any specific deadline," the government's Press Office said.
In a Facebook post, the Global Focus Center announced on Friday: "Precisely because of the government's poor communication these days (the effects of which have been visible - people are taking iodine pills, queue at gas stations, passport offices and banks) we, as experts, have been asked to clarify the situation. We therefore took the initiative to create, exclusively together with colleagues from other NGOs, a mechanism whereby to put pressure on the government to ensure speedier, more correct, more complete communication., Agerpres informs.
