Minister of Interior Carmen Dan stated that in her capacity as PM she endorsed the bill proposing that a two-year detention sentence to be applied to those who refuse to do community service, when a court order says they must do.
"This is an initiative that not only I endorse, but also other colleagues signed for it. Basically, we have so many cases where civil sanctions are not paid up. More than that, there are courts which give community service orders that are not observed. I believe this means there are people who observe the law and who should and I believe they consider themselves wronged because other do not. There are such situations when we have hundreds of civil penalties that are not paid up. So that's why this legal initiative was conceived and drafted," stated Carmen Dan on Monday, at the National Standing Bureau meeting of the Social Democratic Party (PSD).
Asked about the two-year detention punishment to be applied for such situations, the Minister specified: "This is the deadline established by the criminal legislation for those who do not carry out court orders."
