Interior Minister Catalin Predoiu declared on Tuesday, on the occasion of the 162nd anniversary of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MAI), that the institution's priorities will remain the same, namely the fight against drugs, border protection and security in traffic.

"It was right to make the fight against drugs a priority. The fight against drugs is really an essential problem for society. And we must do our part, of course. Others must also do their part, in terms of education and prevention. We also work through prevention, but the great prevention effort must be in the area of education, in the area of the school, in the area of the family", stated Minister Predoiu, in a message sent on the day of the MAI.

He added that the Police will continue to do their duty, at all levels of action.

"We will multiply the means made available to the Police, in addition to what we have done so far. Similarly, in the area of migration, border protection, emergency situations, services to citizens. There was a lot of talk here and very well about a series of of products that the Ministry will complete in the coming period and that will make the citizen's life easier. All these things that are the result of a product that I could call safety, public order and services for the citizen, must they be communicated. The dimension of communication becomes essential in a world where perception is often taken as reality", declared Catalin Predoiu.

The minister mentioned that as regards the communication of the results of the biological analyzes following the testing with the drug test devices, it is difficult to convince the people that it is not the Police's job.

At the same time, he pointed out that the 162nd anniversary of the Ministry of Internal Affairs was a moment of analysis of the activity of each structure of the MAI and presentation of the projects to be initiated in the near future.

July 16, 1862 is the date when ruler Alexandru Ioan Cuza and Nicolae Kretzulescu, Minister Secretary of State at the Department of Intru, signed Ordinance no. 495 through which the foundations were laid for the establishment of a single Ministry of the Interior, based in Bucharest.
