Investments in education are key to a better future (Senate head)

The signing of the one billion euro funding contracts from the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR) for equipping Romania's schools is an unprecedented moment, Senate President Nicolae Ciuca said on Wednesday, adding that it is clear that education and healthcare are Romania's top priorities, and investments in education are the key to a better future for Romania.

"The "Educated Romania" country project (...) initiated by President Klaus Iohannis in 2016 (...) started from the premise that all children should have access to quality education. Education is a fundamental human right and is essential for a democratic and prosperous society, education is the cornerstone on which all other aspects of our lives are built," said Ciuca, at the ceremony at the Victoria Palace for the signing of contracts financed under the National Recovery and Resilience Plan, the call for projects on "Equipping pre-university education units and related units with furniture, teaching materials and digital equipment."

"By signing these funding contracts today, more than 5,600 units will be equipped with computer and science laboratories, new school cabinets, practice workshops and IT equipment. In other words: pupils in these schools will benefit from the best conditions to carry out their educational activity. It is important to point out that the schools to be modernised are located both in rural and urban areas, funds are available for vocational and technical education and the equipment will be used for extracurricular activities," added Nicolae Ciuca.

The President of the Senate mentioned that these funds will be given on a priority basis to schools in disadvantaged areas, as "it is extremely important to ensure that all children in our country benefit from optimal conditions and that we reduce the disparities between rural and urban areas."

According to him, during his mandate as prime minister, he discussed all the issues related to the fulfillment of the milestones and targets of the PNRR for attracting these funds. AGERPRES
