Lia-Olguta Vasilescu after Romanian president's refusal to appoint her minister: Gov't to notify CCR again

Social Democratic Party (PSD, major at rule, ed.n.) Dolj deputy Lia Olguta Vasilescu, former Labour Minister, holds that the Social-Democrats were expecting that President Klaus Iohannis would still refuse to appoint her minister, reason for which the Gov't will notify the Constitutional Court of Romania (CCR) again.

"We were expecting it. It was a last attempt by Mrs. prime minister before attacking again at the CCR, an institutional conflict being already notified. We have been expecting this reasoning, because we have seen President Klaus Iohannis's last reasoning. He has basically invoked some law articles, but which do not back him in any way, because none of us violates those law articles, it is about myself and my colleague Mircea Draghici," Vasilescu told on Monday private TV broadcaster Digi 24.

According to the former minister of Labor, President Iohannis "insists on trampling a CCR decision", which states that the first time he can refuse on whatever opportunity reason he desires, but the second time he may only refuse on the grounds of legality.

"We very clearly meet these legality requirements. So Mr President Klaus Iohannis continues to break both Romania's legislation and CCR decisions, which is why the Gov't will notify again the CCR sometime tomorrow," Olguta Vasilescu further said.

She added that establishing the proposals for the minister positions does not fall within President Klaus Iohannis's duties.

"Perhaps Mr Iohannis would like to give us a list with ministers who are further allowed to be ministers and then we would notice that beside breaching the CCR's decisions, he also wants to take over the prerogatives of the ruling coalition and of the party that won the elections, because for now, the ministers are proposed by the government made up of the parties that won the elections. When PNL [National Liberal Party, the opposition, ed.n.] wins the elections and Mr Iohannis can have a saying as regards the ministers, there will be a completely different situation. For now we find ourselves in this paradigm," Vasilescu stated.

President Klaus Iohannis stated on Monday that the Government's proposals for the Transport and Regional Development Ministries, namely Mircea Draghici and Lia Olguta Vasilescu, will be yet again rejected.

"These two proposals will be rejected this week. In a day or two, the documents will be completed and resent to the Government," Iohannis mentioned on Monday at the Cotroceni Presidential Palace.

He added that the reasons for the refusal will be made known in the letters.

"There are legal matters that must be very well studied and I recommend their study. I haven't received any other proposals and the discussions which we carried out weren't aimed at other proposals. (...) The solution is very simple, the governmental side just needs to carefully read the legislation I invoked and PSD just needs to come up with some proposals that will convince me that the ministries will be well run," Iohannis stated.
