Bucharesters are the most dissatisfied Europeans when it comes to public transportation, with only six percent saying it is OK, according to a study of Friedrich Ebert Foundation Romania, which published on Monday an infographic on this topic. To the contrast, citizen satisfaction figures about public transportation in their cities are 46 percent in Berlin, 43pct in London, 31pct in Stockholm, 27pct in Athens and 26pct in Madrid.
The study correlates the poor quality of public transportation with the higher-than-average use of private cars, irrespective the general quality of life in a city. People generally prefer using public transportation where it operates properly, even when they could afford their own cars. The motorization rate - passenger cars per 1000 inhabitants - is 446 in Bucharest, higher than Stockholm's 393, London's 301 and Berlin's 333. Bucharesters are expected to buy even more cars if the quality of public transportation remains unsatisfactory as their purchasing power increases.
