As many as 72 black-and-white frames by renowned Tokyo-born photographer Kosei Miya will go on display as of January 24 at the exhibition 'Maramures, The Center of the World' organized at the Euro Foto Art Gallery in Oradea.
The photos featured in the exhibition were taken several decades ago, most of them on classic film, during the Japanese photographer's trips to the picturesque region of Maramures, a place he is enamored with.
"The photo artist born in 1937 in Tokyo has been photographing for 58 years now, since 1965. He first learned about Maramures by chance, in the same year, and ever since he has traveled over 200 times to Romania, to Maramures! He had personal exhibitions in several big cities of the world, including Paris, Vienna, Rome, Linz, Venice, New York and Sibiu. In Oradea he exhibits for the first time. For the Japanese photo artist, Maramures means the local people and their fortitude, and photography is a perfect love," says Stefan Toth Istvan, the president of the Euro Photo Art International Association (AIEFA), as cited in a release, Agerpres informs.
The exhibition will open on Tuesday, January 24, at 16:00 hrs, with the author attending, and will stay open until February 17.
Thurzo Sandor Jozsef (viola) will provide the musical atmosphere of the opening event performing several Japanese compositions.
The exhibition is part of the 11th edition of the "Carol Pop de Szathmari - Szathmari Pap Karoly" International Festival launched on January 15, organized by AIEFA in partnership with Summit Agro Romania under the auspices of the International Federation of Photographic Art (FIAP).
The photos on display can also be admired on the AIEFA website at: https://www.eurofotoart.com/efa-exbhibitions-halls/fiap-exhibition-center-oradea/08/.
