The show "Marriage Request", a production of the "Stela Popescu" Theater, directed by Alexandru Grecu, will be presented for the first time on April 25 and 26 at the "Ion Lucian" Hall of the Excelsior Theater in the capital.
According to a press release from the "Stela Popescu" Theatre, sent to AGERPRES on Tuesday, the show ingeniously combines two of the most famous one-act plays by Anton Pavlovich Chekhov - 'The Bear' and 'Marriage Request' - in a production signed by director Alexandru Grecu, invited from the National Satirical Theatre Ion Luca Caragiale in Chisinau. "The two texts are brought together in a unitary theatrical construction, creating a lively dialogue between the characters and ultimately demonstrating that love is unpredictable, and arrogance and pride can transform any situation into a true... comic battlefield," according to the description of the show.
The cast is composed exclusively of actors from the "Stela Popescu" Theater: Sorin Sandu, Ana-Maria Ivan, Cristi Neacsu, Irina Caramizaru (April 25), Manuela Harabor (April 26), Catalin Frasinescu (April 25), Viorel Păunescu (April 26), Viorel Paunescu (April 25), Daniel Filipescu (April 26).
The show preserves the tradition of classical theater, but adds a dynamic rhythm and comic effects that make this production a memorable experience for spectators of all ages, claims the cited source.
The set design clearly delimits two parallel worlds in which the two stories evolve, in parallel and alternatively. Two mirror couples appear - Natalia Stepanovna and Ivan Vasilievich Lomov, respectively Elena Ivanovna Popova and the "bear" Grigory Stepanovich Smirnov - which offer a succession of comic moments, with absurd accents and a subtle dose of lyricism, specific to the Chekhovian universe, the press release also states.
