The Minister of Education, Sorin Cimpeanu, participated on Tuesday, in Luxembourg, in the meeting of the Education Council, among the topics addressed being investments in education, crisis management in the field and the financing of European universities.
According to a press release, during the debate on crisis management in the European area of education, Minister Cimpeanu underlined that Romania had a rapid reaction to adapt the legal framework and specific regulations in order to allow effective support for children and young people. Ukrainians need not only support from the perspective of education, but also support to generate a sense of balance and normalcy as much as possible.
"In the next period, a sustained effort is needed to move from an emergency humanitarian response, in which we ensured access to education, to the development of quality services for the effective protection of refugees, beneficiaries of temporary protection," said Cimpeanu.
He specified that the management of the problems of refugees who want to continue their education is handled by both central and county structures.
"The logistical support provided by the Romanian schools is essential for the provision of classrooms, IT infrastructure and equipment, teaching materials. I had the chance to note with satisfaction this support, even 3-4 days ago, during the meeting with over 200 Ukrainian children studying in Romanian schools, a meeting which was also attended by Commissioner Nicolas Schmidt," the minister said.
Sorin Cimpeanu appreciated the promptness of the European governance system to ensure a coordinated response of the member states in the face of the crisis in Ukraine.
The education ministers adopted several documents at the Luxembourg meeting on improving the European mobility of teachers and trainers, the European strategy for strengthening the position of higher education institutions for the future of Europe and building bridges for effective European cooperation in higher education.
At the proposal of the French Presidency of the Council of the European Union, the Declaration for a Common Vision on Efficient, Effective and Equitable Investments in Education was adopted, on which occasion the education minister reiterated Romania's commitment to make investments of 3.6 billion euros for the education and training system through the National Recovery and Resilience Program, Agerpres informs.
