Energy Minister Anton Anton said on Thursday that the most interesting system for storing electricity in gas storage facilities will be built in Craiova.
"We came to Craiova because here we are to build the most interesting system for storing electricity in gas storage facilities. I was criticized, I was told that I was talking nonsense. I visited the Ghercesti storage facility. Near the facility we will have to build a compression station, some compressors and, with the help of wind power, we can introduce gas into the storage facility. This facility today operates with network pressure and if we build compression station near the facility, it will become almost the largest storage facility in the country," Anton Anton explained at the Craiova Power Plant II of the Oltenia Power Complex (CEO), where he participated in the debate "The perspective and development projects at Craiova Power II - reconversion or new capacities to produce electric and thermal energy."
According to the minister of energy, the gas accumulated at Ghercesti will be transported to CET II Craiova, which is 3 kilometers away. "The plant is being retooled by giving up coal and modernizing it on gas. Here, electricity will be produced by a high-efficiency system. We thus manage to solve a big problem. It is a new, modern system, the energy minister said.
Anton Anton said that studies are currently being carried out and funding sources are being sought, but no cost estimates have been made.
