The number of active mandatory home insurance policies increased in August 2025 by 3.07%, reaching approximately 2.32 million, compared to 2.25 million active policies on August 31, 2024, according to statistics from the Natural Disaster Insurance Pool (PAID), the company that issues this type of insurance.

Compared to the previous month, in August 2025 there was an increase of 0.88%.

According to PAID, at the end of August, 71% of active policies at the national level were concluded in urban areas and 29% in rural areas, and, depending on the type of dwelling, 94.4% of relevant policies target type A dwellings (those with a resistance structure made of reinforced concrete, metal or wood, with external walls made of stone, burnt brick or materials subjected to thermal or chemical treatment) and 5.6% type B dwellings (those with external walls made of unburnt brick or material not subjected to thermal or chemical treatment).

By region, the most active policies are in Transylvania (20.6% of the total), Muntenia (19.9%) and Bucharest (18.5%), and the fewest - in Maramures (3.2% of the total policies) and Bucovina (3.6%), according to Agerpres.

PAID has been issuing mandatory home insurance since July 2010. The main objective of PAID is to cover all homes in Romania with insurance for the three natural disaster risks - earthquakes, floods and landslides.

Mandatory home insurance policies cost 130 lei for type A homes (maximum insured amount 100,000 lei) and 50 euros for type B homes (insured amount 50,000 lei).
