Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu said on Friday that inflation has taken a significant year-over-year dip this September to 4.6%, and this trend shows that the government's measures to protect the Romanians' standard of living were the right ones.
"There was a significant drop in inflation to 4.6% in September, compared to the same month in 2023. This trend shows that we have taken the right measures to protect the Romanians' standard of living! That is why the government will continue capping food mark-ups and we will enter the cold season with the same caps on energy and gas prices. This is how we help Romanians keep their utility expenses at a bearable level," Ciolacu wrote on Facebook.
He added that he is aware that these measures are not enough, and that therefore, the government has also prepared other solutions to shore up the population's purchasing power.
"The Romanians want concrete support for increasing their living standards, and this will remain the priority of my term as a prime minister until the last day! I am convinced that our alliance partners will have the wisdom not to destroy just now what we have built with difficulty for three years at rule," the head of the government wrote.
September's annual inflation rate dipped to 4.62% from 5.1% in August, as food product prices went up by 4.72%, those for non-foods advanced by 3.3%, and services grew by 7.88% more expensive, shows data released on Friday by the National Institute of Statistics.
