Romania condemns in the harshest terms the blatant violation of Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity by Russia, as well as of its international obligations, according to international law, Prime Minister Nicolae Ciuca said on Tuesday after the meeting held in Kyiv with his Ukrainian counterpart Denys Shmyhal.

"We are alongside Ukraine in these difficult times, because Ukraine's security means European and Euro-Atlantic security. Ukraine's fight is also the fight to defend our common values and freedoms," the head of the Government in Bucharest added, according to a press release.

He added that "the whole world should see and praise the courage of the Ukrainian people to follow freely their own path."

"Russian aggression continues day by day with more and more casualties as a result of premeditated attacks. There are not enough words to describe the atrocities in Bucha, Borodianka, Irpin and other parts of Ukraine. The Russian invasion of Ukraine violates any rule of international law and humanitarian law. It is contrary to the fundamental moral values of humanity. Russia must be held accountable for every crime and act committed by its forces in Ukraine, which are legitimately condemned by the international community," Ciuca added.

Thus, the prime minister spoke about the efforts to take "all possible measures to hold accountable and punish all those responsible for the design, financing and implementation of this illegal war of aggression against a people who, like us, want peace, freedom and prosperity".

Ciuca pointed out that "Romania will continue to make every effort bilaterally and multilaterally, within all international organizations and at all levels - political, humanitarian, economic and legal - to ensure that international law and moral principles are again fully respected in our hard-tried region."

He said that Romania "is deeply interested and committed to contributing to the efforts aimed at the complete reconstruction of Ukraine, and we are ready to discuss this process in concrete terms."

"Ukrainians want to take their rightful place in the European family, along with other people who share the same values. No one has the right to crush a legitimate aspiration, so deeply rooted in the choices, the identity and conscience of the Ukrainian people. This should be good enough a reason to support Ukraine's joining EU. I am proud and honored to be here today and I assure you that Romania and the entire Romanian people fully support Ukraine on its European path," he added.

Nicolae Ciuca met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and members of the Ukrainian Government on Tuesday. The prime minister was also accompanied by the President of the Chambers of Deputies, Marcel Ciolacu, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bogdan Aurescu.
