Romanians hope that until 2019, the Cooperation and Verification Mechanism (CVM) be lifted, because "it is not right for Romania to take over the Presidency [of the Council of the European Union - ed.n.] while sanctioned", premier Viorica Dancila told a joint press conference with European Commission's Jean-Claude Juncker in Brussels on Wednesday.
"The European dimension will be important for Romania, for Romania's gov't. We will make all the efforts to have a fair, transparent cooperation with the European institutions, with the European Commission President, respectively," the Prime Minister said.
"Romania's European path is tied to Mr. President Juncker. (...) We hope that still under Mr. Juncker's presidency we can talk about Romania joining the Schengen area. Romania fulfills all the conditions as far as the Commission is concerned. And also that the CVM be lifted, because it is not right for Romania to take over the presidency while sanctioned," the head of the Bucharest Executive further said.
