PNL's (National Liberal Party) mission in the Cotroceni consultations is to fully support the national referendum, the leader of the Liberals, Ludovic Orban, stated on Monday.
"PNL will participate in the Cotroceni consultations. The mission given by the Executive Bureau of the party to the delegation that will represent the party at Cotroceni is to fully support the referendum initiated by the Romanian President. PNL will fully get involved alongside the President in this referendum that will allow the Romanian citizens to express their will and decide very clearly that those who have rubbed Romania in the past 30 years can no longer escape the rigors of the law, and that we cannot accept any Government to systematically threaten justice independence and the fundamental rights and liberties of the citizens, through the issuance of emergency ordinances at nighttime like thieves or at daytime while hiding, only to help some avoid their punishment for the corruption acts they committed," Orban said after the meeting of the PNL leadership, which took place at Parliament.
He showed that the Executive Bureau mandated him to establish the composition of the delegation that will go to Cotroceni.
"We won't propose any questions, for, as the topics are formulated, the questions are quite easy to anticipate. I am sure that the President will have some proposals of questions. In our opinion, the topics based on which the referendum will be organised are very well chosen and essential for the development of the Romanian society," said Orban.
The Liberal leader appreciated the consultations with the head of the state will start with the PNL, given the existing partnership between Iohannis and this political party.
He also stated that the referendum will help the Romanian society as a whole, when asked about the Social Democrats' statements according to which the national consultations will help USR (Save Romania Union).
Orban specified that, if the referendum is validated, the Constitution and the legislation in this field will need to be modified.
President Klaus Iohannis late last week sent a letter to the leaders of parties and political entities represented in parliament, by which he invited them to consultations at the Cotroceni Palace, on Thursday and Friday, on the topic of the referendum on justice, informed the Presidential Administration in a release.
