The President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola, received on Thursday the Timisoara Award for European Values, the municipality's highest honour, granted to personalities who support fundamental European values.
Roberta Metsola was honoured for her firm attitude in times of crisis, her unconditional support for Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova and her constant efforts for Romania's accession to the Schengen Area.
This year's laureate was chosen by a jury made up of leading figures of the Romanian cultural, diplomatic and legal scene: Iulia Motoc (The Hague), judge at the International Criminal Court, Cristian Macelaru (Cologne), music director of the National Orchestra, Simona Miculescu (Paris), ambassador, president of UNESCO General Conference, Anca Miruna Lazarescu (Munich), director and screenwriter, Adriana Babeti (Timisoara), writer and literary critic, Dominic Fritz, mayor of Timisoara.
The Timisoara Award for European Values is accompanied by a cash prize of EUR 30,000. This year, at Roberta Metsola's request, the cash prize will not be collected and will be reallocated for the 2026 edition.
