Prince Charles on Thursday evening was welcomed to a tea party at Elisabeta Palace in Bucharest by Romania's Crown Princess Margartea and Prince Radu. At 18:00 hrs, a motorcade entered the Romanian Entryway before Elisabeta Palace.

Prince Charles was greeted before the palace by Margareta and Radu. He hugged the princess and kissed her hand. He then shook Prince Radu's hand and the three of them walked toward the entrance to the palace on a red carpet.

Four officers of the 30th Mihai Viteazul Guard and Protocol Brigade, joined by six horseback gendarmes dressed up in parade costume, saluted the guest. Some lady admirers of Prince Charles were in the yard of the adjoining Village Museum. "We have come here especially for the prince. Initially, we wanted to go to the Patriarchy, but we finally opted for Elisabeta Palace," said two students. The private tea party lasted 50 minutes, in the White Lounge.

Prince Charles was also expected to go see a maple tree in the palace's garden planted in 2011, weather permitting. The event happened at the end of the second day of Prince Charles's three-day official visit to Romania. The visit started on Wednesday with the prince laying a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Warrior in Carol I Park in Bucharest. Also on Wednesday, the prince was welcomed at the Cotroceni Presidential Palace by President Klaus Iohannis, who awarded Prince Charles a Star of Romania in rank of Grand Cross decoration as a token of esteem for the prince's activity in Romania and the promotion of Romania's picture abroad.

On Thursday morning, the prince visited the Village Museum, he was welcomed by Prime Minister Sorin Grindeanu and visited NGOs relevant to the bilateral relationship between Romania and the UK. In the afternoon he called on he Romanian Christian Orthodox Patriarchy, where he was welcomed by Patriarch Daniel, and visited the UK Embassy. The official visit to Romania ends on Friday.
