Lowering electric bills for the household consumers in Romaia can be done only by increasing efficiency or by saving, given that 60% of their value is made up of regulated components and only 40% is electricity, chairman of the Association of Energy Suppliers (AFEER) Laurentiu Urluescu said on Monday.

"I will talk a little about the price in the electric bills. For the household consumers, we must also take into account a figure: 60% of the bills is made up of regulated components, not electricity. Only 40% of the bill is electricity. And I would like to emphasise that since June I have been hearing from the Romanian authorities, several authorities, who express their concern about lowering the bills for the final household consumer and I have put on the list what has been done so far. As of July 1, the subsidy has disappeared, well, the capping scheme as others say. Also from June 1, the contribution for cogeneration increased from RON 3.5 to RON 8.4, more than double. On August 1, VAT increased from 19% to 21%. On September 1, the rates for system services increased from RON 7.04 to RON 2.79. From November 1, the cogeneration contribution will increase again from RON 8.4 to RON 13.06," he said.

According to the specialist, electric bills are closely linked to consumption, and any decrease in consumption can only be achieved by increasing efficiency or by saving.

"I said to take it mathematically, how the electricity bill could be lowered. I see that there would be two major components. Once the components of the bill that form the price per kilowatt-hour are subtracted, only 40% is the energy price, the remaining 60% are others, namely regulated distribution and transport tariffs - 35%, taxes - 18% and contributions to various aid schemes - 7%. The second possibility of lowering the bill is by decreasing consumption, which everyone needs to know, many are not aware, I think that the electric bills are the same as the mobile phone subscription, the electric bill is closely linked to consumption and the decrease in consumption can be done by increasing efficiency or by saving," said Urluescu.

The Focus Energetic publication in partnership with the Committee on Energy, Energy Infrastructure and Mineral Resources of the Romanian Senate, on Monday organised the 44th edition of the Focus Energetic Conferences and the 13th edition of the cycle dedicated to winter preparations. The event "Winter Challenges 2025 - 2026 for the National Energy Grid" took place at the Parliament House.
