The Romanian participation in the Global Entrepreneurship Summit (GES) 2019 and ways to encourage fresh investments by Dutch entrepreneurs in Romania were the main subjects approached at the April 18 meeting between Paula Pirvanescu - Secretary of State of the Ministry for Business milieu, Commerce and Entrepreneurship (MMACA), and President of the Confederation of Netherlands Industry, Hans de Boer, the ministry said in a release.

Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to Romania, Stella Ronner-Grubacic also attended the meeting.

As many as 23 Romanian companies have already registered for this year's Global Entrepreneurship Summit taking place in The Hague June 4 - 5, and co-hosted by the Kingdom of the Netherlands and the United States of America.

"This is a chance for Romanian entrepreneurs to connect with the global business community, to build partnerships and obtain financing," said Paula Pirvanescu.

A subject of common interest for the discussion partners referred to increasing the mutual presence in the markets of the two countries. In this context, the Romanian official conveyed Ambassador Stella Ronner-Grubacic an invitation for Dutch business people to seek, with MMACA support, business opportunities for new investments in Romania. Pirvanescu presented the Dutch delegation the programs implemented by MMACA to support entrepreneurs, as well as the recent government measures to improve the business climate.

The dialogue partners also underscored that there is still a significant potential for the development of bilateral trade and investment relations and agreed on the timeliness of organizing in the near future, in The Hague, an economic forum devoted to Romania, which should connect the business communities of the two countries and contribute to the dynamic balancing of bilateral trade.

The Netherlands ranks 1st among foreign investors in Romania by the amount of equity capital, with a share of 21.56 percent of the total investments in our country.

There were 5,289 companies with Dutch capital registered in Romania as of February 28, 2019, with investments worth 9.67 billion euro.

In 2018, the Netherlands was on the 8th position in the ranking of Romania's trading partners, with 3.3 percent of the total commodity exchanges, of which exports accounted 2.59 percent and imports for 3.58 percent. The Netherlands is also 11th among export destinations for Romania and 8th as a source of imports. Trade exchanges amounted to 4.975 billion euro, up 8 percent from 2017, of which exports represented 1.76 billion euro (+9.22 percent) and imports 3.22 billion euro (+7.32 percent).
