Romania is willing to table the BRHA pipeline which can be an alternative route for supply in order to bring to Europe gas from Azerbaijan, said, on Monday, in Brussels, the Energy Minister, Virgil Popescu, before the extraordinary session of the Energy Council.

"We mustn't depend on a single major source of supply, there is need to diversify supply sources and routes. Romania is willing to table the BRHA pipeline, which was constructed as a European project and is not unused at the potential it could have. BRHA can be an alternative supply route in order to bring to Europe gas from Azerbaijan through TANAP (Trans-Anatolian Natural Gas Pipeline), TAP (Trans Adriatic Pipeline), the southern corridor, the vertical corridor and then onward to Western Europe," said the Energy Minister.

Popescu emphasized that Romania is one of the largest producers of natural gas in Europe and has gas resources in the Black Sea, Agerpres.ro informs.

"We want to have this option on the table, we want to extract and consume gases in the European Union, Not least, we want to explore all possible options to help the population of Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova because the entire world should know that the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine are tied together, their electric grids are tied, they're tied when it comes to gas supply and we must treat them the same," the Energy Minister also said.
