The president of the Romanian Cultural Institute (ICR), Liviu Jicman, is the new president of EUNIC - European Union National Institutes for Culture, after assuming this position during the General Assembly held on Wednesday and Thursday in Bucharest.
"I am honored by the trust that my colleagues in the EUNIC network have given me by voting. I begin my mission in this position, which I will hold for one year, with the conviction that the vision, values and collaborative actions of EUNIC are part from the solution to have a strong cultural sector. The vocation for intercultural dialogue doubled by the common voice of EUNIC members offers the opportunity to prioritize the financing of culture, the role of cultural diplomacy in international relations and the support for the Republic of Moldova in its European course," declared Liviu Jicman, according to the ICR Facebook account.
The new executive management of the network of national cultural institutes in the European Union (EUNIC Board) has the following composition: president Liviu Jicman, vice-president Kirsten van den Hul (director DutchCulture), Hanna Lamsa (executive director Finnish Cultural and Academic Institutes), Mary Ann Cauchi (Director of Funds and Strategies Arts Council Malta), Carmen Noguero Galilea (Instituto Cervantes), Johannes Ebert (Goethe-Institut).
The General Assembly brought together at the headquarters of the National Bank of Romania the managing teams of EUNIC member organizations from 27 EU member countries, as well as representatives of the British Council and the Ukrainian Institute.
During the two-day meetings, the members of the network contributed to the development of the common vision for the EUNIC Strategic Framework for the period 2025-2029 and the major themes chosen for the events that the network will organize in the following period. They also discussed the mechanisms for supporting the activity of EUNIC clusters around the world, as well as the development of collaboration with local partners from the more than 100 countries in which the EUNIC network is active.
The program of the meeting also included the presentation of the study entitled New Geopolitics, Soft Power and International Cultural Relations, carried out by the Hertie School/University of Oxford on behalf of the IfA - Institut fur Auslandsbeziehungen.
The event in Romania was attended by guests from Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Cyprus, Croatia, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Great Britain, Poland, Portugal, the Republic of Moldova, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Netherlands, Ukraine, Hungary.
