Development of bilateral cooperation, in the context of Romania's willingness to support efforts to modernize and increase the interoperability of the military institution in the Republic of Moldova, was the main topic for discussion during the meeting of the Romanian Minister of National Defence, Vasile Dincu, the Chief of the Defence Staff, General Daniel Petrescu, and the Chief of the General Staff of the National Army of the Republic of Moldova, Colonel Eduard Ohladciuc.

The meeting took place at the headquarters of the Ministry of National Defence, on the occasion of the official visit to Romania, over November 30 - December 2, of the high Moldovan official, who thus answered to an invitation extended by his Romanian counterpart, the Chief of the Defence Staff, General Daniel Petrescu.

The discussion focused on the development of bilateral cooperation, in the context of Romania's willingness to support the efforts to modernize and increase the interoperability of the military institution in the Republic of Moldova. The two sides addressed issues related to cooperation in initiatives and instruments dedicated to partner states under the auspices of NATO and the EU, focusing on the implementation of the NATO Defence Strengthening Package and the European Peace Facility projects for the Republic of Moldova, a press release of the MApN sent to AGERPRES on Thursday specified.

The Minister of National Defence underscored the need to ensure the complementarity of NATO and EU efforts with those in the bilateral context and reaffirmed the firm commitment of the Romanian side for the European course of the Republic of Moldova.

At the same time, the Minister of Defence stated that "Romania and the Republic of Moldova are strategic partners, the solid and comprehensive relations between the two countries being reflected in the field of military cooperation."

"The mutual support offered in the current pandemic context has proved, once again, the solidarity that exists between the two states in difficult situations," Vasile Dincu underscored.

The topics addressed by the Romanian and Moldovan Defence Chiefs aimed at identifying practical aspects regarding the participation of forces in joint training, according to the 2022 Cooperation Plan, signed during the works of the Romanian-Moldovan Joint Military Commission, which met over November 22-24.

In this regard, General Daniel Petrescu highlighted the training opportunity offered by Romania, in the regional framework, through the Multinational Training platform consolidated at a joint level for the conduct of multinational exercises, in which the Moldovan military could participate.

"The aim is to continue the bilateral training through exercises such as "Fire Shield" and other forms of institutional cooperation in areas such as military education, operational medicine, logistics and cyber defence. Cooperation activities between our armed forces are a priority for the command team. This is reflected in the ongoing dialogue, at all levels of leadership, in the support provided to the National Army of the Republic of Moldova in the transformation process and in the participation of Moldovan military in various forms of military education, as well as through exercises that took place on the territory of Romania," said the Chief of the Defence Staff.

The Chief of the General Staff of the National Army of the Republic of Moldova participated in the military parade at the Arch of Triumph in the Capital City, as well as in the Military Ceremony that took place Alba Iulia, held on the occasion of the National Day of Romania, the same source said.
