Romanian boxers Stela Hamza and Loredana Marin on Monday advanced to the round of 16 of the 2025 IBA Women's World Boxing Championships in Nis, Serbia, while compatriots Lacramioara Perijoc and Daiana Andor were defeated.
In the first round of the elite women's fly category, Hamza defeated Agnes Kwasi (Zimbabwe), by technical knockout in the second half (RSC). In the round of 16, Hamza will face Uzbek Feruza Kazakova on March 12.
In the first round of the women's elite women light welter category, Marin, a former European junior and youth champion, benefited of the non-show of Rebecca Sovula (Sierra Leone). In the round of 16, Marin will meet Russian Elena Babicheva.
Perijoc, the 2019 European champion and 2022 world vice-champion, was defeated on points by Thai Punrawee Ruenros (1-4), in the first round of the elite women feather category.
Andor was disqualified after she had defeated German Melani Volkova on points (4-1), in the first round of the elite women bantam category.
Team Romanian also includes Ramona Manea (minimum), Andra Sebe (welter), Amalia Nita (middle) and Maria Cimpoieru (light heavy, wo are accompanied by coaches Adrian and Mihaela Lacatus and Luminita Turcin, the 2009 light heavy European champion.
