Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan said on Friday that Romania's re-admission to the U.S. Visa Waiver Program must remain an important goal in the relationship with the American partner, informs Agerpres.

Asked about the announcement by the U.S. Embassy in Romania regarding the introduction of additional checks for Romanians seeking visas, Bolojan said that "each country sets its own criteria for allowing access to its territory. You probably know that for the U.S. administration, the illegal immigration component was an important topic, that was also on the American public agenda. Given this intense public attention, it is logical that they take certain measures to secure their borders, to limit illegal immigration, and I don't see any problem with that."

"Regarding Romania's re-admission to the Visa Waiver Program, I believe that it must remain an important goal for us in our relationship with the United States, for our citizens, and we are working to make this happen. But let's work harder and honk less, and perhaps the results will be visible," said the prime minister.
