Romania's trade balance deficit widens by 38.5pct in January 2025

Romania's FOB/CIF trade balance deficit in January 2025 increased by 38.5% year-on-year, to EUR 2.73 billion, according to data published on Wednesday by the National Institute of Statistics (INS).

In January 2025 alone, FOB exports amounted to EUR 7.25 billion, and CIF imports to EUR 9.99 billion. Compared with January 2024, exports increased by 2.4% and imports by 10.3%.

INS data reveal that in January 2025, important shares in the composition of exports and imports are held by the product groups: machinery and transport equipment (44.8% of exports and 33.8% of imports) and other manufactured products (28.7% of exports and 29.3% of imports).

The value of intra-EU27 trade in goods in the period under review was EUR 5.13 billion in exports and EUR 6.94 billion in imports, making up 70.8% of total exports and 69.5% of total imports.

Also, the value of extra-EU27 trade in goods amounted to EUR 2.11 billion of exports and 3.04 billion euros of imports, meaning 29.2% of total exports and 30.5% of total imports.
