The newly elected Senators have taken the oath of office on Wednesday, with the mandates of the 136 Senators having been validated.
Senate dean and session chair Leon Danaila pointed out that the Senate is legally established.
According to the Senate Regulations, the Parliament's Upper House is legally established after the validation of three quarters of the total number of Senators. The mandate validation entails the confirmation of the Senator's election as well as the oath of office.
The first Senator to have taken the oath of office was Calin Popescu-Tariceanu, as he left for the consultations at the Cotroceni Palace. Then the oath taking was done in alphabetical order.
The Senators took a one-hour recess, after which they will establish parliamentary groups, elect the institution president and the composition of the Standing Bureau.
