Romania's tennis player Simona Halep, WTA's No 5, in New York on Monday eased to the quarterfinals of the women's singles event at the US Open, the year's fourth and last Grand Slam tournament after winning to Carla Suarez Navarro, according to Agerpres.
Halep, a last year's semifinalist at Flushing Meadows, has had an excellent match and secured her victory in one hour and 38 minutes.
The Romanian tennis player has had four aces, against zero of the Spaniard's, who instead totalled two double mistakes, while the Romanian has recorded none.
Simona Halep and Carla Suarez Navarro have recorded 11 direct matches (6-5 for Halep).
Halep secured a 450,000 USD cheque and 430 WTA points. Her next opponent will be the winner of the Serena Williams (USA) v Yaroslava Shvedova (Kazahstan) fixture.
