A total of 13 gendarmes were injured during the Sunday evening protest at the Central Electoral Bureau (BEC), where the invalidation of Calin Georgescu's presidential candidacy was announced.
Additionally, seven protesters who were extracted from the crowd were taken to the police station for questioning.
"Up to this point, nine gendarmes have been interviewed as victims and four as witnesses. I also mention that other four gendarmes, victims of the assaults, have been identified and are currently hospitalised, and will be interviewed later," General Inspectorate of the Romanian Police (IGPR) Spokesman Octavian Dan said at the Bucharest Police headquarters on Monday.
He also added that a technical-scientific investigation of the crime scene was carried out, revealing damages to the windows of several commercial establishments, destruction of street furniture, pedestrian pavement and the vandalisation of a van belonging to a television station.
