Direct investments reported for the first six months of this year by the TechAngels investor network amount to EUR one million, with a focus on new startups and emerging technologies.
According to a release by the group, approximately 28% of the respondents to the internal half-yearly survey made direct investments, while the rest invested either via funds or temporarily suspended investments.
Also, 17% of those surveyed chose to enter new startups (43% of total investments), and 12% preferred follow-on rounds (56% of total), thus continuing the trend of recent years of supporting companies already in their portfolio.
Some of the startups financed in the reporting period are: Evopath, Finor, GapApp, AnimaFelix (new investments) and Quarks Interactive, SalesOmmo, FieldOS and FoodFix (follow-on rounds).
As many as 269 startups were assessed through dedicated platforms in H1 2025, over half of them operating in the AI and Deep tech area, followed by solutions for health and human resources, but also fintech, edtech and mobility.
The group also continued to be active in the ecosystem, through partnerships with accelerators, associations and events in Romania, the Republic of Moldova and the United Kingdom, as well as through collaborations within EBAN (European Business Angel Network) and BAE (Business Angels Europe). Group members participated in local, regional and European events and conferences such as DigiTalk Sofia (Bulgaria), PODIM (Maribor, Slovenia), Tigers Summit, Unchain Festival (Oradea) and Techsylvania (Cluj-Napoca).
Regarding plans for the second half of the year, TechAngels members have expressed an intention to invest over EUR 2.5 million, more than twice as much as in H1. In addition, there is availability for involvement in key events for the startup and investor community, including ScaleUp Fest (Hungary), Impact CEE Conference (Bucharest), HowToWeb (Bucharest), Business Angels Summit (Sarajevo) and EBAN Annual Congress (Brussels).
TechAngels is an open group of private investors interested in supporting the development of technology startups in Romania and the region. At the moment, the association has over 140 members, and the investors in the group are entrepreneurs or C-level specialists from multinational companies, with extensive experience on the Romanian and global market, in business planning, product development, market approach, sales, marketing etc.
The TechAngels portfolio currently includes over 270 startups, while the group's investments in the local ecosystem of this type of business stand at approximately EUR 46 million over the last 12 years.
