Romanian tennis player Filip Cristian Jianu qualified for the quarterfinals of the challenger tournament in Zadar (Croatia), with total prizes of 91,250 euros, on Thursday, after the Czech Dalibor Svrcina abandoned at 3-6, 6-4, 4-2.
Jianu (23 years old, no. 241 ATP) won after two hours and 8 minutes.
Svrcina (22 years old, no. 165 ATP), the sixth seed, won in their first encounter, in 2023, in the first round in Tampere, 3-6, 6-3, 6-3.
Jianu secured a cheque for 2,635 euros and 12 ATP points, and in the quarterfinals he will face Croatian Borna Coric (28 years old, no. 112 ATP), former world number 12 (2018).
On Wednesday, in the first round of doubles, Jianu and Alexandru Jecan were defeated by the pair Vit Kopriva (Czech Republic)/Daniel Michalski (Poland) 7-5, 6-2.
