The head of the Emergency Situations Department (DSU), Raed Arafat, said on Thursday that lifting the measures to limit the spread of COVID-19 is out of the question, noting that great caution and care should still be exercised, given that the "peak" of the infections has not been reached and the impact is not known.
"We can talk [about lifting restrictions, ed.n.], but not at this time. At this time, we remain very cautious, we remain very careful, we are still monitoring, we do not believe we have reached the peak, to know what the impact is. At the moment, no," Arafat told a news conference.
Regarding the situation in the countries where these restrictions have been lifted, Arafat said that they are in another phase, after hundreds of thousands of cases have been registered and their number has started to decrease.
"The countries that resorted to these measures have already had a peak with hundreds of thousands of cases, they have started to decrease, so they are in another phase. We are waiting to see how it evolves further, no one can be 100 percent sure. But there is certainly no question of lifting the measures, which in Romania are even more permissive than in some countries that have had total lockdowns and quarantines," Arafat said.
