Thursday, Friday and Saturday will be days of national mourning in Romania, declared so in memory of King Mihai I.
During these days, all institutions and central public authorities will fly the Romanian flag at half-mast. The same will do the political parties at their headquarters, the trade unions, employers' unions, the educational and cultural institutions, the diplomatic missions of Romania, the border checkpoints, the airports, the ports, the train and bus stations, as well as the ships sailing under Romanian pavilion. And anyone else who flies the flag at his/her domicile or residence has the same obligation.
Moreover, television and radio stations, and also the cultural institutions must adjust their programme accordingly.
After King Mihai I died, the National Audiovisual Council reminded the radio broadcasters that they have the obligation to observe the fundamental human rights and liberties, the right to private life - as stipulated in the relevant legislation - and also to approach these moments with decency and responsibility.
King Mihai I died on December 5, aged 96, at his residence in Switzerland.
The coffin with the remains of the former Romanian sovereign was brought to Romania on Wednesday.
According to the programme announced by the Royal House, all those who would like to bring flowers or say a prayer at the King's catafalque can come to the Throne Hall at the Royal Palace on Thursday, 8:00 to 20:00 EET.
On Saturday, the former sovereign will be buried in Curtea de Arges.
