Student Bogdan Nimerenco won the bronze medal at WorldSkills Shanghai 2026 in the Digital Interactive Media Design category, introduced for the first time this year in the WorldSkills Competition programme, Babes-Bolyai University (UBB) in Cluj-Napoca announced on Sunday evening.
According to a UBB press release, Bogdan Nimerenco is a student at the university's Faculty of Political, Administrative and Communication Sciences (FSPAC), agerpres reports.
The medal won in Shanghai in a field combining visual design, UX/UI, digital communication and the development of interactive experiences, at the intersection of creativity, technology and the new digital industries, confirms at the highest international level the skills developed through the academic and professional training provided at FSPAC-UBB and, at the same time, represents recognition of the collaboration between students and teaching staff, the source said.
"The result achieved in Shanghai is a performance that confirms the value of our students and colleagues and, at the same time, the relevance of a university model in which education, creativity and applied skills come together naturally. We are all the more pleased that this first-time achievement has been delivered by a team from the Digital Media field, an area that is essential to today's professional and technological transformations. I congratulate the entire team that contributed to this success. It is a result that does us honour and shows that performance built at university can reach the most important international podiums," UBB Rector Daniel David was quoted as saying in the press release.
The UBB-FSPAC team that represented Romania in Shanghai consisted of Bogdan Nimerenco, a student at FSPAC's Department of Journalism and Digital Media, as the competitor, and lecturer George Prundaru, PhD, a member of the teaching staff at the same department and a WorldSkills Romania expert, who coordinated the preparation for the competition and whose academic and professional work covers areas including editorial design, visual communication, UX/UI design, branding, digital applications and video games.
According to the same source, within WorldSkills the expert's role extends beyond training the competitor. Under the competition's international system, experts contribute to the preparation and conduct of the competition tasks and participate in the assessment process based on the standards and criteria specific to each field.
WorldSkills Shanghai 2026, the 48th edition of the WorldSkills Competition, took place from September 22 to 27 in Shanghai, China.
This year's edition brought together approximately 1,400 competitors from more than 70 countries and regions, competing across 64 skills.
Romania was represented by 13 competitors entered in 11 competition categories.
Held every two years, the WorldSkills Competition is one of the world's leading international competitions dedicated to vocational skills. Its tasks are designed to assess participants' skills in settings similar to professional environments and to reflect current standards and technologies in the fields represented.
