Wizz Air to close Suceava base at October-end
Air operator Wizz Air announces that, as of October 28, it will close its base in Suceava, but will continue to operate flights on five routes to London Luton, Rome, Milan Malpensa, Dortmund and Memmingen, told Agerpres.
According to a press release the company sent to AGERPRES on Thursday, flights to Larnaca, Eindhoven, Brussels Charleroi, Paris Beauvais and Bologna will continue to be operated, but from the base in Iasi, which will grow with the addition of a fifth aircraft this winter.
"All affected employees at the Suceava base will be offered opportunities to work elsewhere in the Wizz Air network. Wizz Air remains committed to long-term growth on the Romanian market, creating hundreds of additional jobs both within the company and in associated industries, stimulating the rapid growth of the tourism and hospitality sectors in Romania," the source said.
The airline operates more than 5,000 flights per month to 24 countries from six bases in Romania: Bucharest, Cluj, Timisoara, Iasi, Craiova and Sibiu.
The first Wizz Air flight took off from Suceava on August 3, 2016, and since then the company has carried over two million passengers on its low-cost routes to and from this airport.
Wizz Air representatives mention that people who booked directly through the company's website or mobile app and are affected by the changes will be notified by email and can opt for free rescheduling, a 120% refund of the original fare in the form of a company credit or a 100% refund of the money paid.
Wizz Air operates a fleet of 185 Airbus A320 and A321 aircraft. The company, listed on the London Stock Exchange under the abbreviation Wizz, registered 51.1 million passengers in the financial year that ended on March 31, 2023.
