Romanian athlete Georgiana Lirca won the bronze medal in the 57 kg category on Wednesday at the European Wrestling Championships Under-23 in Tirana (Albania), after defeating Azerbaijani Gultakin Sirinova.
On Tuesday, Lirca defeated Polish Patrycja Ewa Strzelczyk in the preliminaries, she passed Russian Anastasia Kozlova in the quarterfinals, but lost the semifinal to Belarusian Arina Martinova.
Two other Romanians missed out on the bronze medals and ranked fifth, Tania Adam (65 kg category) and Paula Izabela Rotaru (72 kg category).
Within the 65 kg category, on Tuesday, Viorica Tania Adam won in the quarterfinals against Italian Bianca Contrafatto, after which she lost the semifinal to Hungarian Eniko Elekes, and she also got defeated in the match counting for the bronze medal by German Luisa Scheel.
In the 72 kg category, Paula Aurelia Izabela Rotaru got defeated in the quarterfinals by a representative of Russia, Kristina Bratcikova, but her qualification to the final gives her the chance to fight for bronze against Croatian Veronika Vilk, who won in the medal match.
In the Greco-Roman event, in the 63 kg category, Adrian Daniel Anton got defeated in the preliminaries by Greek Marios Kapantais.
In the 87 kg category, Patrik Gordan lost to the Turkish Alperen Berber in the qualifications, but the opponent's entry into the final gave the Romanian the chance to compete in the requalifications, against the Russian Bashan Saidov.
Romania will also be represented in the Greco-Roman wrestling event by Denis Mihai (cat. 60 kg), Vasile Cojoc (cat. 82 kg) and Ionut Gosa (cat. 97 kg).
