The Constitutional Court of Romania (CCR) denied on Wednesday denied a constitutionality objection filed by the opposition over the Greater Union Centennial bill, CCR sources told Agerpres. The objection was draw up by 70 MPs of the National Liberal Party (PNL) and Save Romania Union (USR).
PNL announced in May that the Liberal MPs group filed with the CCR a constitutionality objection over a bill on the 1 December 1918 Greater Union Centennial as adopted by the Chamber of Deputies. According to PNL, the parliamentary majority has imposed legislative solutions breaching constitutional regulations concerning the power of Romania's President to award decorations and honorary titles on behalf of the Romanian state.
The bill on the Centennial of the War for the Unification of the Nation (1916 - 1918) and the Greater Union Centennial was adopted on 3 May.
