Chilean businessman Rafael Garay, who is accused in his country of having embezzled about 1 billion dollars, was taken out of the arrest of the Brasov County Police Inspectorate and taken under escort to the Bucharest-Otopeni International Airport in order to be extradited to Chile, Brasov Police Inspectorate spokesperson Gabriela Dinu told agerpres. The plane takeoff is scheduled for around 12:40 hrs.
Garay has been under house arrest for 40 days in Brasov, after he was nabbed on November 18, 2016 by Brasov police in a local mall. He was presented to the Brasov Court of Appeal which ordered him under house arrest until the clarification of the extradition documents, and then the Chilean was placed in pre-trial arrest according to the legislation in force.
