As many as 79 persons were taken to the police stations following the confrontations in Victoriei Square on the evening of February 1, said on Thursday the Minister of Internal Affairs, Carmen Dan, who mentioned that five sanctions were also applied.
Dan added that in the name of the 79 people criminal cases were opened for outrage and public order and peace disturbance, and in one case for owning high-risk drugs.
According to the minister, eight gendarmes were injured, out of whom three were rushed to Floreasca Emergency Hospital and the Emergency Eye Hospital, for specialized medical evaluation.
At the same time, four protesters were hurt, two being taken to Floreasca Emergency Hospital, but none was admitted.
"The investigations are being carried on by a 50-police officers team under the coordination of the Prosecutor's Office with the District 1 Court. People also received civil fines for breaking legal norms, and three of them belong to football galleries," specified Dan.
As regards the operative data exchange between the Romanian Intelligence Service (SRI) and the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MAI), Dan claimed she hadn't received any notification regarding the possible provocation intent.
"Last night, between 19:43 hrs and 22:55 hrs, in the middle of the protests, the State Secretary Viorel Stefu and the Police Chief Bogdan Despescu received text messages from an officer within SRI, that refer exclusively to the possible presence at the protest of certain people, activists who participate constantly in such type of activities, as well as the presence of some galleries' members, generally speaking," stated Dan.
According to the minister, the data received through the text message did not signal any risk as regards public order disturbance, the intent to pervert the character of the manifestation, respectively if those people intended to carry out acts of violence, nor that they had upon them means to use to that purpose.
