4,104 new cases of COVID-19, in over 30k tests in past 24 hrs, death toll hits 59,027

As many as 4,104 new cases of people infected with SARS-CoV-2 have been recorded in the last 24 hours, with more than 30,000 tests being carried out, the Strategic Communication Group (GCS) reported on Monday, Agerpres reports.

Out of the new cases, 239 are in patients who are reinfected, tested positive more than 180 days after the first infection.

As of Monday, 1,848,641 cases of infection with the novel coronavirus have been registered in Romania, of which 14,468 are in reinfected patients, tested positive at a period of more than 180 days after the first passage through the disease.

According to GCS, 1,758,184 patients were declared cured.

Countrywide, 11,204,351 RT-PCR tests and 6,346,205 rapid antigen tests were processed.

In the last 24 hours, 9,001 RT-PCR tests were performed (4,561 based on case definition and medical protocol and 4,440 on request) and 21,709 rapid antigen tests.

Aside from the newly confirmed cases, following the retesting of patients who were already positive, 319 people were reconfirmed positive with COVID-19.

As many as 16 deaths - 9 men and 7 women - in patients infected with the novel coronavirus have been reported in the last 24 hours, the GCS reported on Monday. Of the 16 deaths, one was recorded in the age category 50 - 59 years, two in the age category 60 - 69 years, seven in the age category 70 - 79 years and six in the age category over 80 years.

According to the GCS, all deaths were recorded in patients who had a medical record.

Out of the total of 16 deceased patients, two were vaccinated against COVID, were aged 60 to 69 years and 70 to 79 years and associated comorbidities.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, 59,027 people diagnosed with SARS-CoV-2 infection have died in Romania.

The law enforcement staff applied, in the last 24 hours, 1,659 contravention sanctions, totaling 433,491 lei, as a result of violating the provisions of Law 55/2020 on some steps to prevent and combat the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, the GCS reported on Monday.

A number of 2,778 people infected with SARS-CoV-2 are hospitalized in health facilities, of which 140 are children, the GCS announced on Monday. According to GCS, 414 patients are hospitalized in the ICU wards and ten are children.

Of the patients admitted to intensive care, 27 have a certificate attesting to COVID-19 vaccination.

According to the data existing in the alerte.ms application, at national level, there are 1,257 ICU beds for COVID-19 patients, of which 300 in Bucharest.

On the territory of Romania, 26,813 people confirmed with infection with the novel coronavirus are in isolation at home, and 2,852 in institutionalized isolation. Also, 48,553 people are in home quarantine and in institutionalized quarantine - 53.
