Ciamba meets European Commissioners in Brussels; Brexit and transatlantic relation - among topics on agenda

Minister-delegate for European Affairs George Ciamba on Wednesday had in Brussels meetings with the European Commissioner for Trade, Cecilia Malmstrom, and the European Commissioner for Economic and Financial Affairs, Taxation and Customs, Pierre Moscovici.

The main topics discussed at the bilateral meeting with European Commissioner Cecilia Malmstrom were related to Romania's priorities during the time when it holds the presidency of the Council of the EU, as well as topics of common interest regarding the recent developments in international trade, with emphasis on the role and importance of strengthening the multilateral trading system, Brexit and other bilateral trade negotiations processes, carried out between the EU and third parties partners, reads a release of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAE) sent to AGERPRES.

On this occasion, the interlocutors highlighted the importance of the recent ratification by the European Parliament of the EU-Japan Economic Partnership Agreement, in the current international trade context and voiced belief that during the time when Romania is holding the Romanian presidency of the Council of EU there might also be new progresses recorded with respect to the signing and adoption of other trade agreements negotiated by the EU with partners such as Singapore and Vietnam.

Minister-delegate George Ciamba also had a meeting with European Commissioner Pierre Moscovici, with whom he discussed the priorities and perspectives for the main files to be dealt with by Romania when holding the presidency of the Council of EU in respect to the strengthening of the Economic and Monetary Union and taxation.

On this occasion, the Romanian dignitary reiterated Romania's commitment to continue with efforts to advance the files regarding the strengthening of the MEU, including the proposal regarding the InvestEU, as well as the ones regarding the taxation policy. The Minister-delegate for European Affairs highlighted the importance of advancing negotiations regarding the future Multiannual Financial Framework post-2020, whose evolution will determine the progress of other initiatives at European level.
