The Minister of Education and Research, Daniel David, stated on Wednesday that a strategy for family health and birth rate is needed to prevent population aging, based on education and scientific knowledge.
The Ministry of Education informed on Wednesday that it took note "with concern" of the United Nations' communiqués that also mention Romania as a country at risk in terms of population aging.
According to a ministry's communiqué for AGERPRES, this phenomenon will increase in the coming years, amid the decrease in the fertile age segment of the population and as a result of the decrease in birth rate.
Through formal and non-formal educational policies, through lifelong learning and research-development-innovation, the ministry has a key role in understanding, preventing and correcting this social problem of the country. In this regard, it has requested a national strategy based on education and scientific knowledge from the main actors already involved in such analyses, primarily starting from the national multi-disciplinary project "Family Health and Birth Rate", carried out by the Academy of Medical Sciences, under the auspices of the Romanian Academy, in collaboration with a number of representative universities of the country, the press release explains.
"The very existence of our nation and its well-being depend on how we resolve the situation of family health and birth rate (population aging) in the future. The first and most important plan (plan A) is the one directly related to improving family health and increasing birth rate. There are already good ideas, derived from scientific research, so I believe we are at the stage where we can propose a new National Strategy in this regard, including with the involvement of relevant authorities in the relevant fields," Minister Daniel David said.
According to him, as a secondary approach, starting from the observations of the "Draghi Report", a plan B is also needed, carried out in parallel with the main one or as a safety plan, if plan A does not work with rapid effects, namely compensating for a while the low birth rate with innovative-competitive developments that would ensure, however, social welfare.
He added that he would support such approaches as minister of Education and Research both in the field of research-development-innovation and in terms of educating the population in this regard.
