At meeting on Tuesday of Romania's National Education Minister Pavel Nastase and his Croatian counterpart Pavo Barisic, the two officials assessed the bilateral relations between Romania and Croatia in the education area, as well as priorities in the education and training areas that the Romania-Croatia-Finland trio will have while holding the rotating presidency of the Council of the European Union (EU).

According to a press release of the Foreign Affairs Minister (MAE), at the meeting Nastase mentioned an ongoing process of identifying the main topics that are to be included on the agenda of the Presidency of the Council of the EU, based on the national priorities in the education and professional training areas, correlated with the ones on an European level.

"Several examples mentioned by Minister Pavel Nastase regard negotiating the future Erasmus+ programme, a strategic framework for European cooperation (ET 2020) and preparing the strategic framework for 2030. In this context a working group made up of representatives of the education ministries in the three countries (Romania, Croatia and Finland) was proposed to be set up in order to ensure good organisation and coordination of the Presidency of the Council of the EU.'

At the same time, satisfaction was expressed with bilateral projects regarding mother tongue education, for instance the establishment of a school in Susnjevica that teaches the Istro-Romanian dialect, as well as a school network providing Croatian tuition in Caras-Severin County.

Furthermore, cooperation development in this area was mutually agreed on that includes meetings of experts to analyse the initiation of bilateral projects in terms of access to education of the related ethnic minorities of the two countries.
