EnviMin Fechet attends inauguration of works on first Prut River drinking water undercrossing in Moldova
Romanian Minister of the Environment, Water and Forestry Mircea Fechet on Monday attended the inauguration of works on the first drinking water undercrossing of the Prut River at Macaresti, Ungheni District, Moldova, told Agerpres.
Also attending were Moldova's Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development Andrei Spinu, Moldova's Minister of the Environment Rodica Iordanov, Chairman of the Iasi County Council Costel Alexe and officials of the ApaVital company.
Fechet also said that on his visit to Moldova on Monday he and his counterpart Iordanov agreed that a working meeting should be scheduled for October.
"We will have, most likely in October, a working meeting in Chisinau to finalise all ongoing projects, and I am happy in the context of climate change. Climate change does not stop at the border between countries. It affects these communities, as well as the communities of Moldova. I was happy to see examples of good practice in the management of drinking water. Water is a resource to which we assign a special priority at the Ministry of the Environment, because in the context of climate change in the next 20 years - whether we are talking about surface water or underground water - we should be careful with the way we manage water," said Fechet.
Iasi County Council Chairman Costel Alexe said that this first undercrossing will complete the project of the Nisporeni District and the Central Regional Development Agency for the supply of drinking water to 13 towns in the Nisporeni and Ungheni districts. Also at this stage, the design and authorisation of the undercrossings at Sculeni and Tabara, intended for the supply of drinking water to Falesti, Glodeni and Ungheni Districts, will begin.
