All emergency response authorities have been mobilised in light of the flood alerts issued and all flood protection infrastructure in high-risk areas is being monitored, Environment Minister Diana Buzoianu announced on Tuesday.

"Today, we held an emergency committee meeting. We are in contact with absolutely all the competent authorities which need to take preventive measures, but also to intervene when such floods or flood risks occur. Constanta, for example, faces quite significant high flood risks in the coming period. People are mobilised, we have instructed all authorities, through these committees, to have personnel on the ground. At the moment, hundreds of people are deployed in the field with the necessary equipment. We are prepared within the limits of our capacity and available equipment. All flood protection infrastructure works in high-risk areas are being monitored," said Minister Buzoianu, who attended the 6th edition of the European Rangers Congress (ERC).

She advised people to avoid risk areas and to follow all alerts issued by the National Meteorological Administration (ANM) and the National Institute of Hydrology and Water Management (INHGA).

"Absolutely everyone in those areas is urged not to go towards risk zones, but rather to stay outside them or remain indoors and avoid going outside during these periods. It is important to follow all alerts, as information will be constantly provided. The ANM, the INHGA, the environment authorities will issue warnings," the Environment Minister added.

Meteorologists have extended the Code red warning for heavy rain to five counties and Bucharest, with the alert set to come into effect on Tuesday evening at 21:00.

Isolated thunderstorms may occur, and rainfall amounts could reach 80 to 100 litres per square metre and locally 120 to 140 litres per square metre, in short intervals or through accumulation.

On the other hand, a Code orange warning for significant rainfall has been issued for the period 7 October at 21:00 to 8 October at 23:00, covering Muntenia, the southern half of Moldavia, Dobrogea, and the south-east of Transylvania and Oltenia, where rainfall totals of 60 to 90 litres per square metre are expected, with isolated amounts reaching 100 litres per square metre.

Thus, locally, in northern Moldavia, southern Transylvania, eastern and southern Oltenia, and the western Southern Carpathians, rainfall totals of 25 to 30 litres per square metre are expected, with isolated amounts of 40 to 50 litres.

Furthermore, the INHGA has issued a Code red for floods on rivers in Dobrogea, specifically in Constanta and Tulcea counties, from 21:00 on 7 October until midnight on 8 October.
